The Me262 Storm bird was a German fighter aircraft flown during late World War II. It was the first jet to be used in war. Its design started in 1938, was first flown on 18 July 1942 and it first appeared in the skies over Europe in 1944. There was about 1,300 Me262 built and claimed a total of 509 Allied kills. The Me262 family has a variety of roles, including light bomber, reconnaissance, heavy weapon and even experimental night fighter versions. The Me262A-1a/U4 carried an awesome 50 mm cannon variants. This was intended to be the ultimate bomber killer.
